Fantastic pick. It seems to me that The Who are one of those under-rated classic rock bands, often overshadowed by super powers, like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and others.

Who's Next has some of The Who's best songs: "Baba O'Riley", "Bargain", "Behind Blue Eyes", and "Won't Get Fooled Again". Even these hits are tied together with buried gems ("Love Ain't for Keeping", "The Song Is Over", "Going Mobile", etc.). As a whole, this is a great album.

I don't mean to wax political, but I thought it important to mention that "Won't Get Fooled Again" is ranked the #1 conservative rock song according to the National Review.

I grew up with The Who and they were probably my favorite band in Elementary school. It started by listening to "Love Reign O'er Me" on my brother's headphones and then grew into a complete fetish for Pete Townshend. I have all their CDs in case you'd like to borrow one....

I agree about Neil Young's voice. Some people are just meant to write music and not necessarily sing it. But he writes great songs, so I do my best to forgive his voice. He has also inspired me to have a little hope for my singing voice.

You are right in saying this is a raw album. It is a classic, but it never grew on me the way his surrounding albums ("Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" and "Harvest") have. Still a good pick for your playlist. Kudos.

...I don't agree with you on music much, but I bought this CD...I dunno, 5 or 6 years ago, and it's still one of my favorite albums ever. I caught him and Lisa Hannigan on Austin City Limits in 04, he's just as amazing in that venue as he is on the album. Lisa's retooling of Silent Night on the hidden tracks is beautiful, and while a bit depressing, so many of his songs have little glimmers of happiness in them~except Cold Water, which really is just depressing as all get out.
So yeah, Damien Rice FTW!!!
